Celebrate spring one meal at a time

Apparently the latest figures show that restaurant, takeaway food and cafĂ© sales are up, news which optimistic types are taking as a sign that increasing consumer confidence is boosting interest in dining out after a year which saw Australians “cocooning” in response to the global financial crisis (and probably watching Masterchef while they did).

Given what a lovely day it is, I read this and immediately thought, 'well, of course things are looking up, its spring and people are throwing off their winter lethargy along with their coats', but no, the figures are actually for July, so maybe there is some truth in the theory.

Either way, it seems to me that spring is the perfect time to come out of hibernation and get behind our restaurateurs by revisiting all those favourite haunts or perhaps discovering some new ones. As the old rhyme goes, ‘Spring has sprung, the grass is ris’, I wonder where the menu is’, or something like that anyway... Just be sure to book a table outside.
